Greater things are still to be done...
Every other Tuesday morning, our core staff gathers at Panera Bread at 6:30 in the morning to talk about different happenings at Harbor, to celebrate what God has done in our ministries, and to hang out. I really enjoy these mornings, though they're very early, I think it's a great time to spend with other followers of Christ who serve Him no matter what. I especially take great joy in knowing that some who show up aren't even paid, pretty amazing stuff! We are going on a staff retreat in November and I know it's going to be a great experience, and that God is going to use that time to grow us closer as a staff and give us some insight into His heart and vision for what's to come at Harbor! What a great community to be a part of!

Surely we can change..
Hey all, below is a video we did at church a couple of weeks ago. it's different street signs from around Salem and we actually did the song live for our gathering, but I added the song in for all you out there so that you could experience what we experienced. It was an eye opening time for many to realize that you don't have to go halfway across the world to serve, but there are opportunities in our own backyard. check it out, feel free to use the idea.

here comes Fall...
I love FALL......I can't believe it's just around the corner. some of my favorite things happen in fall, including, watching the seasons so vividly change, you can very well see and smell the beauty of God. Love cold or hot cider, with the cinnamon stick and all. love dressing for fall, and snuggling up to the one i love...or even driving with the windows down and some good music speaking nothing at all. I have to be honest and say i'm excited for it and this will be the first fall as a husband...being a husband is fun and it's everything i thought it would be, and then some. i love that I'm growing and that God is teaching me each day on how to be a better husband and friend to Jax. she does an awesome job on being a wife and she fills me with such joy, i can barely express in words. i am asking God to continue to make me the Man He desires me to be, and I know that this fall season, he will continue to create in me a clean heart.
ahh.....smell the air, see the leaves, get out the jackets, fall is here...

random thoughts spurred on by song...
I find myself in that place of quiet and holy rest. I miss my wife, I long for us to get there….wherever there is. There might be just around the corner, or it might be several thousand miles away, or it could just be right here. I suspect that there is here and now, as we are, as He is, and even as we hope to be. To quote Robbie Seay: “it might not be, the prettiest thing you’ll ever see, but it’s a new day, baby it’s a new day.” We’re thankful for what is, hopeful for what could be, and loving each other as we are. A few things we know, God is good, life’s been generous, and we’re fortunate. There are those with much, much less, and we have literally all: we want to offer our lives in service to this cause of giving, but it looks different for both of us….how can we do this together? We’ll make a way: He’ll make a way. She is beauty, love, and compassion wrapped beautifully as one. I am love, dreams, and a song, stumbling my way through life. Togthether, we are a life…a good life….a life full of faith, hope, and love, and we will give our life to the service of the one cause, the one kingdom, and the one great love.
seriously...
so, here I am again trying to start my blog again. Hopefully i can try to stick with it. I will likely be blogging about several things including thoughts about God and Faith, my wife, our life together in New England, and perhaps things I continue to learn about ministry and service to the Kingdom. So anyways, here goes another opportunity.

thoughts on discernment...
i'm in the midst of making decisions that will continue to lead me in the way of God and allow me to open up and freely give myself away in ministry.
my purpose here is simply to talk:
I desire a life where i'm helping others get to God through music, I do that now, but it's hard to remove yourself from the daily and see the bigger painting at hand. I know i'm a color in this painting, but i'm so close to the painting that i can't even tell what color i am. what do i do......does it really matter......God is with me.
if life flows from God, then if i'm in God, i will live.
live.

Glory to God in the Highest
I don't know about you or the local church body you're apart of, but at the body I'm a part of, Fellowship Bible Church, Knoxville, we are currently indulging in the season of Christmas. However, let me make a disclaimer: We are not indulging in the Christmas season because the world is indulging in the Christmas season, but we are diving in because we want to re-capture the beauty and wonder of the birth of the Christ, the Son of the Most High.
So, now that I've said that, I also love to sing the songs of Christmas, because they're fun and for the most part, communicate very well the wonder and awe of the birth of our Savior. This past sunday we sang the song "Angels We Have Heard On High", and as I was preparing the songs and weaving them together, I really began reading the words of this song. As I read, I realized that I've been singing this song for years, but never truly knew what the words in the chorus, "Gloria, In Excelsis Deo" truly meant. I knew that it was having to do with God's Glory, but never understood the beauty of this Latin phrase.
So, I did some research, and this is what I learned.
By definition, "Gloria, In Excelsis Deo" means: Glory to God in the Highest. This phrase is the title and beginning of a doxology or "song of praise" used in the Roman Catholic Mass and even sometimes in other Christian Churches. This particular song of praise was originally written in the Greek language and goes back to at least the third century, even possibly the first. Both the Greek and the Latin read the same until the last two lines, which are as follows. The Latin reads: Tu solus altissimus" and "Cum sancto Spiritu" which means You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, With the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. The Greek reads: Every day I will bless thee and will glorify thy name forever and ever, then adds ten more verses, primarily drawing from the Psalms. Either way, both are still sung today in the Roman Catholic Mass and in the Greek Orthodox Church. (All information drawn from studies in the Wikipedia Encyclopedia Online)
I will now post for you the full modern English translation of "Gloria in excelsis deo"
Glory to God in the Highest,
And peace to His people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King, Almighty God and Father;
We worship You, we give You thanks,
We praise You for Your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Son of the Father.
Lord God, Lamb of God
You take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us;
You are seated at the right hand of the Father, recieve our prayer.
For You alone are the Holy One,
You alone are the Lord,
You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
With the Holy Spirit in the Glory of God the Father. Amen.
I hope all you in blog land found this information somewhat helpful and hopefully the more we dive into what we're singing and saying in our churches, the more effectively we as the Body of Christ may advance the Kingdom. Amen.

Something New...
Hey all, if any who read my blog.
I'm going to try a new thing. First, let me tell you a little about myself.
I am a worship leader for a church called Fellowship Bible Church in Knoxville, TN. I am spending a year here as a Musical Worship Resident studying and learning how to pastor others in the area of Worship. I have a passion for leading worship. I also have a desire for learning and dialoguing with others about how to improve as a worship leader. So, here's what I propose:
Each sunday after I've led worship, I'm going to post a bit on what the focus of the service was, and what I learned in preparing to lead the service. Hopefully, all you out there in blog land can respond and either share feedback and dialogue on what I've posted, or simply share you're own lessons learned through your preparation for leading. Either way, I think this can be a great opportunity to help advance the Kingdom and grow in our leadership. So, till Sunday,
Kenny

Can I have faith without believing in God?
"Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see" ~ Hebrews 11:1.
I've been thinking lately about faith. If faith is being sure of something we hope for, and also being certain of things we do not see, then why is it that I don't always trust God to lead me into something I cannot see. Maybe this sounds simple, but let me elaborate...
It is scary to be alone in the dark. It's terrifying to be alone in the dark and not see the light. However, I've been told the light is there, even though I can't see it. If I ever want to find my way out of the dark, and into the light, then I have to believe that the light is there, so that I'll continue to look for it.
